Breakfast in Amsterdam.

If you’re anything like me then a quick trip to Amsterdam may result in you being more peckish than usual & in need for some good breakfast/brunch to get the day started (wink wink).

Here are two restaurants I visited during my last girls trip to Amsterdam that filled up our stomachs (and our hearts) leaving us satisfied, energised and ready for a city stroll.

I have also shared a local favourite for when the sweet cravings kick in and you need a little indulgence!

Greenwoods - Singel 103, 1012 VG

Greenwoods is an all day breakfast, brunch and lunch restaurant on the canal, some would call it small. I prefer cosy. The food was good quality and when they say that product freshness is one of their six brand pillars, I believe them. The menu is built around your standard breakfast/brunch dishes, however, they do make seasonal tweaks. We really enjoyed the French toast, homemade juices and pancake stack, and although it’s another restaurant that does not take bookings in advance, the wait was not in vain.

Staring at Jacob - Jacob Van Lennepkade 215, 1054 ZP

Staring at Jacob is New York style brunch bar serving chicken, waffles & bloody mary’s (if you’re into them). On the day we visited it was so busy we couldn’t book a table and were forced to dine alfresco in March, much to my dismay. The food on the other hand was a very pleasant experience. We ordered the all around carnivore, chicken and waffles and a banana bread french toast to share. I wouldn’t say it’s the best chicken and waffles I’ve ever tasted, so would suggest going for one of the pancake meals instead. The banana bread French toast was lovely and the portions at SAJ are very generous.

Winkel 43 - Noordermarkt 43, 1015 N

The only thing I went to Winkel 43 for was the world famous apple pie. On the back of a very strong recommendation my group followed me to try it out and expectations were very high. Honestly, it’s truly one of the best desserts i’ve ever eaten. Absolutely fantastic apple pie, served warm with a crumbly, cakey, just sensational crust. The apples are spiced and the whole thing made me want to scream. If you don’t like it then unfortunately I can not trust your judgement.
